A drunk Florida man found to have been involved in a golf cart accident claims he had to drink because of President Trump’s statements
THE VILLAGES, FLORIDA – According to information from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the man who crashed his golf cart at The Villages was extremely drunk. The Florida man attributed his drinking motive to President Trump. He claimed that he started drinking after watching Trump’s statements on TV.
Acting on a notice to the sheriff’s office on the evening of July 30, the deputy sheriffs reached Buena Vista Boulevard. When they arrived at the scene, they found that a golf cart had crashed into the wall. Cary de Van, 82, who was inside the golf cart, was extremely drunk.
According to the information obtained from the records, there was a broken axle in the red golf cart that de Van was driving. That’s why the sheriff’s deputies thought he was crossing a concrete pavement. At first they didn’t realize that the man was drunk, but when they started to talk, everything became clear.
While the deputy sheriffs were trying to question de Van about the accident, the man was babbling about his words. In addition, Van smelled of alcohol, recognizable even from afar. There were no injuries and no material damage occurred in the accident with the golf cart.
According to the information they obtained during the investigation, the authorities stated that de Van started drinking about two hours before the accident. According to Cary de Van’s testimony, he saw President Trump speaking on television. Getting angry at what Trump said, he sighed beside the vodka bottle.
Sheriff’s deputies stated that although de Van admitted to drinking alcohol, he believed that he was able to drive. But the Florida man was too drunk to stand on his own. He could not complete the sobriety tests carried out at the scene.
During the breath tests performed according to the sworn statement taken by the deputy sheriffs, the amount of alcohol in de Van’s blood was determined as 0.149 and 0.148 during two different tests. After that, Cary de Van was arrested on DUI charges.
