Cops found a decapitated shark. A Florida man was arrested in connection with the incident.
KEY WEST, FLORIDA – Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Florida man for possession of a shark’s head in a cooler in the Florida Keys.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrested Angel Velazquez, 39, on Wednesday, according to some sources. Velazquez is charged with second-degree misdemeanor.
“Velazquez was fishing at a spot between Ramrod Key and Middle Torch Key that morning, and a friend on patrol spotted him that morning,” said Becky Herrin, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
When sheriff’s deputies checked Velazquez’s cooler, they encountered a bonehead shark that had been decapitated and gutted.
By Florida law, a shark cannot be stored in state waters with its head cut off, skinned or filleted.
