Florida Man Birthday June 12
With the cops after him, the Florida man was chased from Miami to the Uppers Keys.
MONROE COUNTY (CBSMiami) – A Florida man tracked cops from Miami to the Upper Keys on Tuesday.
According to the Florida City Police statement, 50-year-old Lake Worth man named Mark Edward Welch was involved in a car accident. The man fled towards the Upper Keys, trailing the cops after him.
BASE. As he drove towards Mile Markar 108 at 1, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies placed barricades with spikes on the road. Welch continued on, turning the steering wheel south.
Welch crashed into a concrete wall and was able to stop near the Jewfish Creek Bridge at Mile Marker 107.
Sheriff’s deputies pointed their guns at Welch, but Welch still did not get out of his vehicle. After a while, he was taken into custody without showing any resistance to the officials. Welch told deputy sheriffs that there was a woman in his vehicle, but there was no one in the vehicle.
Sheriff’s deputies found a pipe with cocaine residue inside the vehicle. Welch said in a statement that he swallowed 20 stone fragments during the chase and has been smoking cocaine since Tuesday. He also said that he had trouble coughing because some stones were still in his throat.
Sheriff’s deputies took Welch to a hospital in Tavernier. After his treatment, Welch was arrested and sent to prison.
Welch was charged with possession of drug supplies, possession of cocaine, evasion of the practice and DUI.
The Monroe County Sheriff said that at least three law enforcement officers intervened in the chase and that there could be more charges against Welch.
