Florida Man Birthday July 23
A Florida man received a life sentence for his double murder.
TAMPA, FLORIDA (AP) — A Florida man was sentenced to life in prison in a verdict, which was finalized Friday by a judge. The man killed his girlfriend and their special-needs daughter in 2018.
When the jury did not recommend the death penalty for Ronnie Oneal III, it was a foregone conclusion that the sentence would be life imprisonment. Oneal was sentenced to life in prison for murder, attempted murder, arson and aggravated child abuse.
He beat his girlfriend Barron to death and killed his 9-year-old daughter with autism and cerebral palsy with an ax, according to the report. Oneal stabbed his 8-year-old son and set the house on fire.
The judge said that these events were frightening and they rarely encountered such events.
Sisco said, “I have been in this profession for nineteen years. I’ve seen a lot of people being killed by others, but this is the scariest thing I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I will be able to sleep comfortably in my next life.”
Oneal, who spoke during the trial and often shouted at the jury, claimed that he was acting in self-defense at the sentencing trial. Oneal was subjected to a mental fitness assessment while on trial.
Oneal told the Barron family, “I just want to say that I’m not sorry for what I did in the first place. However, I am sorry for your loss.”
Barron’s mother, Lloyd, said, “I wish you had the death penalty. There are reactions to actions. The reaction to your action will be with you in the prison cell,” he said.
