A Florida man said he downloaded child pornography as a solution to his boredom.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A Florida man was caught downloading child pornography even though he knew it was a crime, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. The man said it was an act of relieving boredom.
Sheriff’s deputies received a message from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Authorities began investigating the message pointing to Merritt Island from April 2019.
After the research that started in April, the same clues reached the authorities in June. The same user’s Microsoft OneDrive account was detected, with 7,548 images, 119 of which were child pornography. On November 20, 2019, a search warrant was issued for the house on Merritt Island.
Shane Williams said he lives with a relative and does not have access to any OneDrive accounts and child pornography. He said he hit the wrong button one night while watching porn, and then the crimes followed.
Williams told authorities that he downloaded the pornographic images not for satisfaction, but to relieve boredom. Williams was aware that children in the content he downloaded were victims and said he hated himself for looking after them.
As a result of the authorities’ investigation, 524 child pornography was found on Williams’ other devices. Some of the images featured 1-year-old children.
Shane Williams was arrested on Tuesday for possession of child pornography.
