A Florida man tried to escape by slipping a stolen chainsaw into his shorts

The incident took place in the city of Port St. Lucie in St. Lucie County. A Florida man tried to execute his foolproof plan to steal a chainsaw. He stole the chainsaw and tried to walk away from the store by tucking it into his shorts. The man’s calm demeanor while stealing did not go unnoticed.

An interesting theft occurred at the Treasure Coast Lawn Equipment store in the city of Port St. Lucie. 28-year-old Anthony Ballard stole a Stihl chainsaw from the store. He shoved the chainsaw into his shorts. Later, he tried to hide the electric saw from being noticed by tying a shirt he had brought with him over his shorts.

When the camera records of the store were examined, a very different situation was encountered. The shop clerk was sitting pretty close while Ballard stole the chainsaw. It was learned that the stolen chainsaw has a $620 value. When the store employees noticed the theft, they started chasing Ballard and called the police.

Ballard tried to escape by riding a bicycle. The police learned that the bike was also stolen. Ballard had to throw away the chainsaw he had stolen while fleeing. He then proceeded towards a wooded area. He was unaware that one of the store employees was following him.

The store employee caught Ballard and managed to hold him until the police arrived. Ballard said he wanted to steal the chainsaw but changed his mind and left it. Ballard was arrested for committing grand theft and sent to state prison. Police say Ballard also is wanted for theft in another county.
