Florida Man Birthday August 4
A sly Florida man bought a $140,000 Porsche with a fake check printed on his home computer
WALTON COUNTY, FLORIDA (WSVN) — A Florida man who learned how to print fake checks on his home computer tried to buy a luxury car and expensive watches with a fake check. When the incident was discovered, he faced the charge of using fake checks.
Casey William Kelley, 42, was arrested by sheriff’s deputies last Thursday, according to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. The reason for his arrest was trying to buy expensive things with a fake check he printed at home.
Investigators said Kelley tried to buy an expensive car on July 27. Kelley bought a Porsche 911 Turbo at a Destin dealership with a fake check for $139,203.05. A short time later, the vehicle was reported as stolen by the dealership to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said that the very next day, Kelley tried to buy three Rolex watches from a jeweler in Miramar Beach. Kelley presented a check with $61,521 to the jeweler to purchase the watches. However, the jeweler said he wanted to know if the check could be cashed and kept Kelley waiting.
After the jeweler learned that the check was fake, he reported the situation to law enforcement. Acting on this, the sheriff’s deputies came to the scene and arrested Kelley. Kelley admitted that he did not receive the checks from any bank and he printed them on his own computer at home.
Kelley is now facing charges of grand theft and fraudulent checks.
