Florida Man Birthday May 11
A clothesless Florida man claimed to have planted a bomb at the airport.
DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (CBS) – The man who claimed to have entered Florida airport clothesless and planted a bomb has been stopped by Taser, WKMG reported. The airport was evacuated upon notice.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said they received a call about the man running naked at Daytona Beach International Airport Friday morning.
According to the call, 25-year-old John Greenwood was in the baggage belt and shouted, “I planted a bomb in the toilet, it’s going to explode.”
Sheriff’s deputies arriving at the airport used a Taser to control Greenwood. It turned out that Greenwood, who was taken to the hospital, had used drugs the previous night.
Bomb disposal teams arriving at the airport used K-9 dogs to detect the bomb. After the investigation, the airport, where no bomb could be detected, returned to its normal operation.
According to Sheriff Chitwood’s statement, Greenwood entered the airport with his clothes on and then entered the ladies’ room. He put his clothes in his backpack and went out again.
Greenwood was held twice under the Baker Act in 2007, which allows mental health exams, and was arrested for assaulting a Daytona Beach police officer.
It was rumored that Greenwood would go through a series of federal investigations for what he did at the airport.
Due to the bomb threat, two planes had departed from the airport and the passengers waiting outside were kept waiting for 90 minutes. Passengers were scanned before being taken to the airport.
Airport spokesman Jay Cassenss said, “We don’t always experience such a situation. Thank you for Sheriff Chitwood’s quick response.”
