Florida Man Birthday Challenge March 29
Man fatally shot after attacking deputies with scissors at a Florida hospital
The incident took place in Vero Beach, Florida. The man who wanted to hang himself was rescued at the last moment by his relatives. The man, brought to the hospital in a hurry, was taken under observation. However, after a short time, he took a large pair of scissors, tried to kill himself, and started attacking the police.
The person who endangered the lives of health workers and other patients inside the hospital was a 29-year-old man. When he was brought to the hospital, he was being kept under control after a failed suicide attempt. Everything got out of control at the Cleveland Indian Clinic.
The man began to run around the hospital with a large pair of scissors whose origin was unknown. Luckily, there were four deputy sheriffs nearby, and they wanted to intervene. Sheriff’s deputies chasing the man cornered him, but the man had no intention of giving up.
When the sheriff’s deputies cornered the man, the man pointed the scissors at his head and told them to back off. All of the sheriff’s deputies slowly began to retreat. But in an instant, the two deputy sheriffs drew their guns, fired, and killed the man.
After the incident, the deputy sheriffs were investigated. The administration informed them they would not resume their duties until the incident was investigated. According to preliminary findings, body camera footage used by sheriff’s deputies clearly shows that the man has a shiny object in his hand.
Authorities said the man was being held under the Baker Act. Sheriff Eric Flowers noted that it is possible for people with a high potential for self-harm to be held in this way, even if not voluntarily. He described recent events as a mental health crisis.
